Linden boys' soccer opens tomorrow 09/12/2002
The Linden High School boys' soccer team will kick off its 2002 campaign tomorrow at home against non-conference foe North 13th St. Tech of Newark.
The Tigers, with first-year head coach Mike Walters at the helm after serving as an assistant under Kevin O'Callahan (who is now the Rahway boys' coach), are scheduled to play their first four matches at home.
Linden is scheduled to host Cranford Wednesday, Union Catholic Sept. 20 and Union Sept. 23. The Tigers
will then play at Newark East Side on Sept. 25.
Linden is coming off an 11-6 season that included a berth in the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 playoffs.
"I don't think the team will miss a beat," Walters said. "Most of the squad knows me very well."
The Tigers are led by the standout play of sophomore sweeper Nobert Sieczkowski.
"Norbert's an excellent player," Walters said. "He will be the backbone of our team."
Another sophomore looked upon for a major contribution will be center-midfielder Awel Mohammed, a transfer from Rahway.
They will be joined by co-captains Duane Okun and Steve Cuco, both senior midfielders, and senior goalkeeper Milan Hudek. Juniors include stopper Joe Cammano and midfielder Dominic Principato.
